GUIDELINES AND QUESTIONS FOR GROUP DISCUSSION
Validation of the list of indicators for the provincial food systems
General information
The allocated time for group discussion is 60 minutes. After the discussion, each group
will have 5 to 10 minutes to present the discussion results.
Each group will discuss in a separate meeting room. Nameplates can be placed on the
tables to clarify the topic of each group discussion and help guide members’ participation.
Prepare before the meeting day
- Indicators identified for potential inclusion in the food system profile should be
shared with participants, along with the reasons for the selection, at least 2 weeks
prior to Step 6.
- Local officials and stakeholders are grouped into four main sectors (Agriculture,
Socio-Economics and Trade, Health and Nutrition, Resource and Environment)
based on their expertise to discuss the indicators and scores. It is preferable to
retain the same participants from Step 5.
- Each group should have one facilitator and one note-taker.
On the meeting day: Discussion questions and selection criteria
- Provide instructions to participants.
- Inform participants that they have 60 minutes to review the total scores and ex-
amine all indicators under consideration for selection. They will ensure they either
agree with the selections or provide feedback for adjustments, replacements, or
additions to the list of indicators.
- Clearly explain the reasons why indicators with lower scores are still considered for
selection and seek feedback on whether these indicators should be included or not.
