Workshop to Assess the Progress of SHiFT Initiative Implementation on October 23, 2024

Within the framework of the initiative "Sustainable Healthy Diets through Food Systems Transformation" – SHiFT, the International Alliance for Biodiversity and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (Bioversity & CIAT Alliance) collaborated with strategic partners such as the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD), the National Institute of Nutrition, and related stakeholders to organize the “Workshop to Assess the Progress of SHiFT Initiative Implementation” with the objectives to: i) Share preliminary research results of the SHiFT initiative in Vietnam after nearly 3 years of implementation; ii) Discuss how these research results contribute to the transformation of the food system in Vietnam; iii) Provide general information on SHiFT's follow-up activities within the framework of the CGIAR Program on Better Diets and Nutrition for the 2025-2030 period, and how this program can support food system transformation in Vietnam in the future.

Celebrating the 44th Anniversary of World Food Day 18/10/2024

On 18/10, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with the United Nations in Vietnam and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Vietnam, celebrated the 44th World Food Day; announced the “Scheme to Promote International Cooperation in Agriculture and Rural Development by 2030 with a Vision to 2050”; signed an Agreement to establish the Vietnam Food Systems Transformation Partnership; and launched the United Nations Joint Program in Vietnam on “Promoting Innovation in Partnerships and Finance for Food System Transformation in Vietnam.”

Specialized meeting "Sharing research results related to the food environment in Vietnam" on September 16, 2024, at the meeting room of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development. As part of the CGIAR initiative on Healthy and Sustainable Diets through the Transformation of Food Systems (SHiFT), the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development (IPSARD) coordinated with the Bioversity International Alliance and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (Bioversity-CIAT Alliance) to organize a specialized meeting to share research results related to the food environment in Vietnam, thereby raising awareness and knowledge about the food environment for SHiFT's partner agency staff and research organizations and universities.

From December 8th to December 9 th, 2024, the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology (under Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry) collaborated with experts from the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), the International Center for Tropical agriculture (CIAT) on behalf of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT to organize a training workshop titled "Enhancing knowledge and awareness on transforming food systems for healthy and sustainable diets for Thai Nguyen university faculty members."

Promoting the Transformation of Food Systems and Agroecology in Dong Thap Province

On August 08-09, 2024, Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Bioversity International Alliance and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Dong Thap Province, the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), the National Institute of Nutrition, the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development, and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Can Tho, organized a training program to enhance the knowledge of related departments in Dong Thap on food systems transformation towards healthy and sustainable diets and promoting agroecological transformation. Vietnam transforms food system sustainably, responsibly

Vietnam has implemented the "National Action Plan on Food Systems Transformation toward Transparency, Responsibility, and Sustainability until 2030". The plan, issued by the Prime Minister at the end of March, aims to turn Vietnam into a transparent, responsible, sustainable food producer and supplier to ensure food security and nutrition for its 100 million people and contribute to world food security.
