food system constituent elements
ANNEX 4.1. Food supply chains
The food supply chain comprises the activities and actors involved in the movement of
food from production to consumption including the disposal of waste. The key stages of
the food supply chain include food production systems and input supply, storage and
distribution, processing and packaging, retail and marketing.
Groups of indicators and indicators for food production systems and input supply
Categories Indicators
Inputs Land
- Total land area for agricultural production (ha)
- Area for annual crops (area and % to the total land)
- Area for fruit trees and perennial trees (area and % to the total
land)
- Area of planted forest (area and % to the tot al land)
- Aquaculture area (area and % to the total land)
- Pasture area (area and % to the total land)
Crop varieties
- Number of high-yield varieties (e.g. hybrid varieties) used per
hectare of arable land
- Total number of improved varieties
Fertilizer and pesticides
- Average amount of chemical fertilizer used per hectare (1 ha) of
cropland
- Percentage of arable land area certified for Good Agricultural
Practices (VietGAP), organic, safe production and equivalent
- Average amount of pesticides used per hectare of cropland
- Average amount of chemical fertilizer (converted by compound)
used per unit area of rice cultivation area (by Nitrogenous fertilizer,
Phosphorus fertilizer, Potassium fertilizer)
Irrigation
- Irrigated areas (area and % to the total land)
- Percentage of agricultural land area applying water-saving
irrigation measures
