P. 20
HIGHLIGHTS FOR USERS
Establishment of the Provincial Inter-Sectoral Working Group (PWG)
The PWG can be established either before or during this Step 1. During the
development of the food system profile, the PWG’s key roles include discussing
and providing feedback on the process, supplying and reviewing data and reports
to complete indicators, advising on scoring criteria, assigning scores for indicators,
assessing the local food system, etc. Additionally, PWG members will be responsible
for providing input on subsequent tasks (see Table 1 and Annex 2 for guidance on
the establishment of the PWG).
Expertise
- Ensure the PWG includes diverse expertise, covering key areas such as
agriculture, nutrition and health, forestry, fishery, trade and economics,
science and technology, statistics, environment, policy and governance, and
education.
- For each key area of expertise, ensure that at least two officials or experts
represent each sector. The PWG should consist of 13 to 15 members in total.
Stakeholder category
- Prioritize the inclusion of provincial officials (e.g., officials from various
provincial departments) when forming the PWG.
- It is advised to ensure diversity across stakeholder categories by including
representatives from the public sector, private sector, civil society
organizations, and associations at the sub-national level. Representatives
from research institutions and non-governmental organizations may also be
included. Strive for diversity in gender, age groups, and ethnic groups.
- Aim to include at least one or two officials or experts from each stakeholder
category.
